Fredrick Day Trip
September 08, 2017Recently I suggested to my boyfriend when he had time off from his busy work schedule that we break the habit of staying in his home and go for a mini adventure. I think a change of scenery is nice for any ones mental health and it's a personal goal of mine to get out more often so it was a win win situation overall. I decided this time that he had to experience the beauty of Fredrick, Maryland a charming city located in western Maryland founded in good old 1745! I have visited a handful of times before just for the casual shopping trip and goofing around with friends. This time I wanted to actually visit a museum and have a nice dining experience.
It also makes me really happy showing new places to people that are important to me you can see all that joy light up on their face. Anyways the day we went was actually August 21st which I didn't know until the day of but apparently a solar eclipse was going to be happening. I guess I was just lost in my own thoughts that entire week to forget something important like that? So on the drive to Fredrick we pulled over into a gas station grabbed some over priced tea and put on our solar eclipse viewing glasses (pretty much cardboard 3d glasses with a super protective film so our eyes don't fry)
I couldn't get any fancy photos like most people I follow on social media due to my lack of a super nice camera and our location but I think these cell phone pics are nice enough and it was a pretty neat thing to see with my own eyes. Next up was going to the National Museum of Civil War Medicine I want to include some information about the history of the museum itself that I took directly from this link http://www.civilwarmed.org/about/history/
"In 1993, historic Frederick, MD was chosen to be the home of the National Museum of Civil War Medicine. During the Civil War, wounded were sent from the nearby battlefields to recuperate in Frederick. The city became “one vast hospital” as the churches, municipal buildings, and homes, were transformed into makeshift hospitals. Not only does Frederick’s connection to Civil War medicine make it a perfect home for the museum, it’s a short drive from the museum to Gettysburg, Antietam, Baltimore, Washington, and more, making it perfect for a Civil War day-trip.
The National Museum of Civil War Medicine is located in the historic Carty Building in downtown Frederick. This building stood during the Civil War.
It saw soldiers march through town, going to battle. Richard Burr, the most dastardly embalmer of the Civil War, operated out of the building … sometimes embalming the dead in the building’s front windows so passersby could watch. The National Museum of Civil War Medicine first opened its doors to the public in 1996. Since then the Museum has continued to grow, in large part due to the support of our community. The National Museum of Civil War Medicine is a private non-profit museum, which means it receives no guaranteed funding from the state or national government to keep its doors open."
Now to the inside of the museum itself~
I'm not gonna lie since leaving my last job my arms have gotten super weak so lifting and balancing this 11 pound gun steady enough to shoot someone would be pretty difficult
I wanted so badly to take this home with me endless bottles of medicines and herbs
One of the soldiers personal belongings (tin photo of a woman)
Overall this museum experience was 10/10 the staff are extremely friendly and wanted to answer any questions we had after viewing everything! I urge everyone to go check it out at 9$ for a ticket its a steal and please buy something in the gift shop at the end to support the museum. I got myself a shirt with the image displayed above sadly they ran out of my size so I settled for it being larger here's to hoping I can shrink it in the future. Next time I come I want to buy a poster and a mug that I missed out on! Don't you hate when you see something you want last minute as you are checking out? After the museum we went to grab a bite to eat. I ended up spotting a restaurant that was completely empty and looked extra fancy. I go by the rule of thumb that if something is empty usually it isn't very good but my boyfriend convinced me we should give it a go anyways.
I was raised to be a adventurous eater due to my dad exposing me to different cultural food at a young age but one thing I never had the opportunity to try was frog. Cody also likes to try new things when he has the chance so we both decided to give it a shot. If you could mix a chicken and a fish together without the fishy after taste that would be what a frog tastes like to me very clean and watery??? I didn't mind it at all but I don't see myself making it a habit to go out of the way to order it that's for sure.
I ended up getting some pretty looking chicken pasta dish with asparagus and tomatoes it had colorful dried vegetables on top. It wasn't bad over all but damn was everything really under seasoned..I wanted to pour some hot sauce on top of it and call it a day. I'm really easy to please though you can take me to olive garden get me some alcohol and a create your own pasta dish and I can die happy.
♡ It can be said that after all of this I took a long hour car nap back home and with that I end this new blog post until next time♡
